Why Don’t Apostolics Wear Nail Polish?

What’s the big deal about nail polish you may wonder? It’s just a little colour on your fingernails, right?

Well, apparently for Apostolic Christians it is. Now don’t get me wrong – I was raised in an Apostolic church by the way and I am a “Real Life” Apostolic.

Even though I never understood the reasoning behind pastors and wives (or anyone important) not wearing nail polish, I did it anyway.

Today, my husband and I allow our kids to fix fake nails but also allow them to wear whatever colour nails they want. I know this isn’t against God (correct me if I’m wrong), but I still haven’t worn any in seven years! ( the mojo to do so ain’t there and I don’t know why)

In this article, we will see why Apostolics don’t wear nail polish, followed by short reasons for doing so.

Reasons Why Apostolics Don’t Wear Nail Polish

There are many faiths and groups of people with varied beliefs. Some of them have odd or strange traditions, rituals and customs.

Today I’m going to discuss Apostolics and the reason why they don’t wear nail polish among other things that set them apart from Catholics.

1. Wearing Nail Polish Could Lead To Sin

Don’t get me wrong, it’s okay to want to give your nails some TLC by adorning them with polishes but what you do not know is that this act could potentially attract the opposite gender to lust over you.

This to me is one of the primary reason I think most churches don’t allow some certain colours to be worn by ladies.

What if I choose to wear clear polishes, does that count as sin as an apostolic? Well, it all depends on what you considered wrong.

If you believe nail polish to be wrong then you might as well believe wearing clear polish to be one. So, yes. It’s a sin irrespective of the colour they come in.

2. Wearing Nail Polish Doesn’t Please God

It’s no longer news that God frowns at anything that doesn’t please him and has warned in scriptures that we should strive to do that which is pleasant in his sight.

And one way I’m sure that dis-pleases God the most is when we try to tell him that we ain’t proud of how he created us.

He already created you after his likeness and any other thing you do to enhance your beauty could potentially upset him.

3. Toxins In Nail Polish Can Affect Your Body

No doubt, nail polishes are loaded with lots of harmful chemicals like toluene, formaldehyde etc. These chemicals can potentially affect you and disrupt the correct functioning of the body.

Hence, the reason why most churches preach against wearing nail polishes because they know the dangers that these polishes could cause.

4. Wearing Nail Polish Could Lead To Distraction

The devil sure has a way to fix our mind on things that don’t matter especially when a sermon is been preached.

This is something I’ve personally witnessed a lot in my local church hence the reason why some churches see wearing nail polish as a distraction for ladies and men.

5. Breaks Gods Order

Women who wear nail polish are shamed among the apostolic church members. The reason is that they believe if women wear nail polish, then they are considered to be breaking themselves from God’s natural order.

Other Things Apostolic And Other Churches May Frown Out Include;

  • Skimpy dresses
  • Makeups
  • Trim their hairs
  • Jewelry
  • Body piercing

1. Skimpy Dresses

Unlike some churches that do allow ladies to put on pants to church, the apostolic church is very strict when it comes to dressing code.

Why you may ask, Deuteronomy twenty-two verses five (Deut. 22:5) pointed out that a woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are an abomination unto the Lord thy God

Apostolic requires that both genders should dress modesty at all time irrespective of whether they are at home or in the church.

For example, apostolic forbid women from wearing pants of any sort and that all skirts/dresses worn must fall below knee level.

They believe so much in modest dressing and encourages that every part of the body that is not meant to be seen should be properly covered to ward off sinful thoughts and lust. (1 Timothy 2:9-10)

2. Make-Ups

Another thing worthy of mention is the use of cosmetics of any sort. This is something that isn’t accepted because they see it as an invitation to sin.

They believe that God already created you in its image and likeness and as such you’re beautiful just the way you are.

So you necessary don’t have to look like the world and copy what everyone else is doing.

PS: Apostolics ladies keep the integrity of their Gods given beauty intact as taught by the scriptures.

The only thing they need to adorn themselves with is the truth and not mascara or any other body enhancement.

3. Trimmed Hairs

Most apostolic believe that women shouldn’t for any reason whatsoever cut their hair and that a woman’s hair is her glory.

These teachings of theirs are based on what 1st Corinthians chapter eleven to sixteen (1 Corinthians 11:1-16) says

KJV: But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

Most also doesn’t allow men to keep facial hair and that a man’s hair ought to be well-groomed and kept relatively short.

4. Jewelry

Apostolics such as the Pentecostal apostolic forbids women from wearing certain pieces of jewellery but most do make exceptions for wedding rings, hairpins, wristwatches and bands.

5. Body Piercing

Tattoos and body piercing is another thing that goes against the doctrines of most churches.

Here’s what the bible says about piercings

KJV: Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.

What Does It Mean To Be Apostolic?

Jesus ministry here on earth couldn’t have been made possible if not with the help of the Apostles. These people were the true followers of Christ and through them were scriptures fulfilled.

So to be apostolic means to follow the teachings of Christ and to do that which is right in Gods eyes.

To be a true apostolic of God, you must be devoted to his words (Acts 2:42), committed to reaching lost souls and most importantly, be able to demonstrate Gods power through signs and miracle.

Are Apostolic And Pentecostal The Same?

Pentecostal is a broad term that refers to all Christians who believes so much in speaking in tongues. Apostolic on the other hand is a term used in pentecostalism and often refers to oneness Pentecostal.

Why most Pentecostal acknowledge God the Father, son and holy spirit as a separate entity, the Apostolic Pentecostal sees these expressions as the same God.

What Are Some Of The Apostolic Church Rules?

Every denomination has rules of conducts that must be followed diligently. Kindly find below some apostolic church rules you might have never thought of.

  • Always pray at home before coming into the house of God
  • You are expected to be well seated before the service commence.
  • Always take your bible with you when coming to the house of God
  • Pray for your pastor and don’t forget to make him your friend.
